On Tuesday February 19th, the Berlin/London pop group The Chap will be taking the stage at about:blank. After playing hundreds of shows all over the world for the past 10 years, the group returns to their sort-of-homeland to play a show in support of their most complete and comprehensive album yet. Titled We Are Nobody, the album contains 11 beautifully melancholic songs about loss, dislocation, nostalgia and defeat. Each song is composed in a mostly traditional pop song format and embedded in a surprisingly soothing and restrained sonic environment.

Deerhoof + Chris Cohen at Festsaal Kreuzberg on November 22nd

On Thursday November 22nd the San Francisco based band Deerhoof will be taking the stage at Festsaal Kreuzberg. Supporting the experimental group is former Deerhoof member Chris Cohen.

Deerhoof’s beginnings, including a 2 track cassette of bass and harmonica solos, are strangely normal and even expected given the band’s evolution over the past 18 years. After releasing record after record on alt rock label “Kill Rock Stars”, the band has headed out on another world tour in support of their latest album Breakup Song. The album includes signature Deerhoof features which is to say all expectations are undermined in a thoughtful and original way. Read more…
