Are you ready for 48 Stunden Neukölln and our exhibition “Reality Swap – The Alternative Status Quo”? You don’t have to wait much longer, because it will start tomorrow!!! One of the participating artists is Sadie Weis. She does pretty cool art stuff: sculptures that look like melting wax or rocks, which are decorated with all sorts of shiny material, such as plastic figures, feathers, neon-lights and colorful crystals. But so you don’t have to keep waiting, you can see some examples of her work in our Spotlight interview and read about Sadie’s interest in different materials and her ideas for 48 Stunden Neukölln.

During this year’s 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival Artconnect Berlin will show the exhibition “Reality Swap – the alternative Status Quo“. We will present six artistic positions regarding the topic of the Festival: “A Change of Perspective”. Before the show commences, we’ve put some questions to the participants, who are Dariuz Fronczak, Erica Smith, Laura Gianetti & Daniele Jost, Ralf Obergfell, Sadie Weis and Sonja Trabandt.
We talked to artist Sonja Trabandt, who was born in Germany, grew up in Kaduna, Nigeria and later graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Sacramento, California, USA and the Schule Schule Salem, Germany. She gained her Masters degree in Photography at the University of the Arts in London in 2012. The young photographer has published her works in Berlin, Potsdam, Cape Town, New York and London, and currently lives and works in Berlin.

In January 2013 Artconnect Berlin and ikonoTV published their first open call for photographers to send in their artworks. The winners got the possibility to showcase their work in a unique film produced by ikonoTV and broadcasted in 27 countries as well as on the web.

Don’t worry if you cannot pronounce the name properly. All you have to know is that the Institut für Alles Mögliche (Institute for all sorts of things) is one of Berlin’s most innovative project spaces and probably one of the few art spaces located simultaneously in several different neighbourhoods. Artist and founder Stefan Riebel established different artist residencies and exhibition spaces in Neukölln, Wedding and Mitte, with the aim of organizing artistic experiments rather than displaying art in a conventional way.
2013 has started and we are looking forward to another exciting year of amazing art events in the city. All those starved-out art-lovers who are waiting for Artconnects next exhibition will find satisfaction soon: we will take part in reSource 003: P2P Vorspiel of one of the first huge art events this year, the widely-known transmediale festival. The waiting has an end, from 25th until 31st of January you can come to see “The Pluto in me“, a showing of multi-media works by members of our online community! We are also very happy to announce that this event is cocurated by our media partner Artfridge aka Anna-Lena Werner.

This time our delicious Networking Breakfast was sponsored by the dining platform PLOONGE and of course we invited two special guests: Frank Schröder, the founder of blog iHeartBerlin, and Florian Elsässer, founder of collaborative accessories label Front Row Society. The result of one of their recent design collaborations was a collection of Kaleidoscopic Photo-printed scarves, which was revealed for iHeartBerlin’s 5th Birthday. After a plate of tasty breads, cheeses, pancakes etc. we started presenting ourselves to the group…
